Matt Trejo is a civil litigator focusing on intellectual property disputes, particularly copyright and trademark matters. He represents clients in IP infringement cases in federal and state courts and has experience at all stages of litigation including preparing and responding to pleadings, discovery, summary judgment, trial, post-trial motions and appeals. Earlier this year, Matt tried a copyright infringement case involving multiple works through to a verdict and was one of the lead attorneys on post-trial motions.
In addition to litigating in court, Matt also has experience handling IP matters at arbitration and mediation. He has prosecuted and obtained trademark and copyright registrations from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Copyright Office. His trademark prosecution experience includes responding to office actions, handling oppositions, cancellations and other proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Prior to joining PS Trials, Matt worked at a national law firm in its Intellectual Property, Sports and Entertainment and General Liability practice groups. Matt also has substantial experience doing general civil litigation in areas such as business disputes, insurance coverage, personal and catastrophic injury matters, construction defect and landlord tenant disputes.
For years, Matt has served as a pro-bono panel attorney for California Lawyers for the Arts, counselling artists and entertainers on a wide range of intellectual property issues.
During his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, surfing, cycling and snowboarding.
